Picture book – inspiration

Since starting my career as a teacher of children under 5 in the 1980’s, I have always been fascinated by children’s imaginary games, the games they play alone, without props, toys or adult intervention, just the magic that’s in their head. Play where they become so completely immersed in their own imaginings, you even believe in the extraordinary places they visit, the astonishing encounters they have and the impossible super hero abilities they posses. Their capacity for storytelling and the depth of plot and narrative never ceases to amaze and inspire me.

‘Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.’

Pablo Picasso

This idea for this particular picture book has been simmering away, in the back of my mind and in the dark recesses of my plan chest for a number of years and I have decided that  summer  2013 is definitely the time to dust the cobwebs away and bring this cheeky young fellow to life!

I think I am finally happy with his personality now!
